Did you know that .......
- Your insurance company is not supposed to raise your rates based
on any speeding ticket for 65MPH or less on any 55MPH road. See Full
text of HB 5123 for more info. Unfortunately, this law has been ruled
unenforceable due to a technicality!
- In Michigan it is illegal to have a radio capable of receiving police
frequencies in your car unless you have a valid amatuer radio license.
- Laser Speed Devices must be aimed from a stationary location.
- Having a black car reduces Laser Radar's range significantly.
- If you fight your speeding ticket you have a good chance of a least
getting it reduced. Be prepared to appeal to a formal hearing for best
results.
- In some states it is legal to be drinking while driving.
Of course you can't be drunk, but cruising while sipping on a beer is O.K.
- In Ontario, Canada radar detectors are illegal. Police have
detector detectors to spot vehicles using them! Of course there are detectorless
detectors now. Wouldn't it be easier to just raise the speed limit?
- The major two lane highways in the upper peninsula are still at
55MPH even though they were 65MPH before the NMSL. The yoopers are getting
the shaft again, eh.
- Some Michigan Indian Reservations have there own license plates,
no fee. They can probably set their own speed limits.
- When traffic conditions are light you are more likely to be singled
out for a ticket even though that is the safest time to travel at a reasonable
speed.
- On the wholesale market premium gas is only 5 to 6 cents a gallon
more than regular unleaded.
- Michigan adds the 6 cents sales tax to gas on top of the "gas
tax". When legislatures compare our tax to other states they forget
to mention that most other states don't add on sales tax.
- Most gasoline is the same quality. Buying gas a expensive stations
is not economical and only encourages higher prices.
- There is a federal law requiring states to pass seat belt laws or
loose highway funds.
- As part of the repeal of the NMSL New Hampshire and Maine were exempted
from the federal seat belt law.
- New Hampshire has "LIVE FREE OR DIE" printed on their
license plates.
